Frills, ruffles, graphic stripes, geometric prints, neon, pastels, 3D flowers, Oriental, sheer and Swinging Sixties, Art Deco… there's a lot happening in spring/summer 2013, any trends of which can be applied to your wedding guest outfit.

So, everyone has already seen Yellow is a happy, summertime colour, while Pantone has heralded emerald green as their Colour of the Year – great for redheads.

Mothers of the bride and bridegroom should leave dress suits to the Middletons and Windsors, updating the matriarchal look with either a printed coat or frock, or the help of colour blocking. Hats ooze sophistication, while fascinators should be chosen with care… some resemble the feathered crumbs from a hen party.

Bright floral or jacquard trouser suits are a sophisticated yet on trend alternative to a frock – pair with sexy heels or a shiny brogue – while men are also invited to think outside the box: add interest to a suit with a curved collar shirt, bowtie and/or waistcoat (remember, cummerbunds are for showbands), or try a contrasting smart jacket and trousers.
